Cal State Fullerton at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Overcoming a sluggish middle portion of the game, the Cal State Fullerton Titans used a dominant fourth-quarter performance to defeat the Pacific Tigers 68-56 in a non-conference women’s basketball game Sunday at the A.C. Spanos Center.

The Titans, who improved to 2-4, were led by a powerful inside presence from Nicole Steiner and a disruptive defensive effort that forced 31 Pacific turnovers. The Tigers fell to 1-4 with the loss, which came despite being heavy favorites according to pregame statistical projections.

Cal State Fullerton started strong, opening a 19-12 lead after the first quarter. The momentum shifted dramatically in the second period, however, as Pacific outscored the Titans 21-9 to take a 33-28 advantage into halftime. The Tigers maintained their lead through a low-scoring third quarter, holding a 43-41 edge heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter belonged entirely to the visitors. The Titans exploded for 27 points while their defense clamped down, limiting Pacific to just 13. A key sequence early in the period saw Cal State Fullerton capitalize on consecutive Tigers turnovers, with Cristina Jones converting a steal into a layup to ignite the game-deciding run. The Titans’ relentless pressure and efficient scoring in the paint overwhelmed Pacific down the stretch.

Steiner, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Los Gatos, was the game’s standout performer, finishing with 22 points and a game-high 37 minutes. Her work on the offensive glass and efficiency around the basket were pivotal. She was complemented by Jones, a 5-10 guard from Long Beach, who added 15 points and was a catalyst on defense. Dylan Swindle, a 5-7 guard from Laveen, Arizona, also reached double figures with 13 points.

For Pacific, Sydney Ward, a 6-foot forward from Houston, led the way with 16 points. Winner Bartholomew, a 6-1 player from Abuja, Nigeria, contributed 10 points.

The game was ultimately decided by defense and efficiency. While both teams struggled from the floor, Cal State Fullerton’s aggressive defense created 19 steals, directly leading to 22 points off turnovers. Pacific, by contrast, managed only seven points off the Titans’ 19 giveaways. The Titans also dominated inside, outscoring the Tigers 38-18 in the paint.

Pacific was more accurate from the free-throw line, converting 19 of 21 attempts, but attempted 25 three-pointers, making only five. Cal State Fullerton attempted just 13 shots from beyond the arc, making two.

The announced attendance was 526. Cal State Fullerton’s next game is at home against Loyola Marymount on Saturday. Pacific will host Milwaukee on Friday.
