Texas Routs Texas Southern in Lopsided Victory

AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The No. 1-ranked Texas women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon, overwhelming Texas Southern 111-45 in a non-conference matchup at the Frank Erwin Center.

From the opening tip, the Longhorns established a dominant tempo that the visiting Lady Tigers could not counter. Texas erupted for 32 points in the first quarter, building a 21-point lead by the end of the period and never looking back. The offensive onslaught continued throughout, with the Longhorns adding 28 points in the second, 29 in the third, and 22 in the fourth. Texas Southern’s scoring was stifled, managing just 11, 14, 8, and 12 points across the four quarters, respectively.

The statistical disparity painted a clear picture of the lopsided contest. Texas operated with ruthless efficiency, scoring 111 points on 41-of-71 shooting from the floor, a 57.7 percent clip. While their three-point shooting was modest at 5-for-12, they aggressively attacked the basket and drew frequent fouls, attempting 40 free throws and making 24.

Conversely, Texas Southern struggled profoundly on offense. The Lady Tigers shot just 18-for-54 from the field and a dismal 3-for-11 from the free-throw line. Their most crippling issue was ball security, as they committed 30 turnovers. The Longhorns’ defense capitalized on these mistakes, registering 14 steals and 7 blocks. Texas also won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding Texas Southern 17-12 on the offensive end.

The Longhorns’ offensive execution was reflected in their advanced metrics, posting an elite offensive rating of 135.4 points per 100 possessions. Texas Southern, by contrast, managed an offensive rating of just 58.3.

The Texas offense was a balanced and potent attack, led by a trio of players who each scored 18 points. Madison Booker, a 6-foot-1 guard from Ridgeland, Mississippi, filled the stat sheet with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block in just 20 minutes of action. Fellow guard Aaliyah Crump from Shakopee, Minnesota, matched that output with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks in 24 minutes. Forward Teya Sidberry of Salt Lake City also poured in 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in an efficient 15 minutes off the bench.

The supporting cast was equally impactful. Center Kyla Oldacre, standing 6-foot-6, nearly notched a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Guards Jordan Lee and Justice Carlton each added 12 points, with Carlton also pulling down 6 rebounds. Point guard Rori Harmon directed the offense with 7 points and 4 assists, while Bryanna Preston facilitated with 8 points and 4 assists.

For Texas Southern, guard Maci Quiller, a hometown product from Pflugerville, led her team with 8 points.

With the victory, Texas remains undefeated, improving its record to 4-0 on the young season. Texas Southern falls to 2-1. The Longhorns look ahead to a home game against James Madison on Wednesday. Texas Southern’s next contest is on the road at Troy on November 27. The game was played before a crowd of 8,699 at the Frank Erwin Center.
