Robert Morris Colonials Defeat Detroit Titans in Horizon League Matchup

DETROIT (Interstat) — Myriam Traore scored 22 points and Eva Levingston added 21 as Robert Morris pulled away in the second half to defeat Detroit 66-55 in a Horizon League women’s basketball game Thursday night at Calihan Hall.

The Colonials, who led by just seven points at halftime, used a decisive 22-point third quarter to build a comfortable advantage and snap a two-game skid. Robert Morris improved to 17-10 overall, while the Titans fell to 5-21.

The game’s most critical sequence came early in the third quarter, with Robert Morris holding a 33-22 lead. Over a span of just over three minutes, the Colonials unleashed a 14-4 run that effectively put the game out of reach. The surge was fueled by the inside-outside combination of Traore and Levingston. Traore, a 6-foot-3 junior from Lognes, France, started the run with a 3-pointer, and Levingston followed with a driving layup. After a pair of Detroit free throws, Traore connected from deep again, and Levingston converted a pair of free throws. Jada Lee capped the run with a 3-pointer, assisted by Levingston, pushing the lead to 47-26 with 5:25 left in the quarter. Detroit never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Robert Morris established control from the opening tip, starting the game on a 9-0 run. The Colonials led 16-9 after a first quarter defined by defensive stops and offensive struggles for both teams. The Titans managed to trim the deficit to 33-26 at halftime, but the Colonials’ third-quarter explosion sealed the outcome.

Traore was efficient throughout, adding a block in 33 minutes of action. Levingston, a 6-foot guard from Oakland, California, complemented her scoring with two assists and a block. Aislin Malcolm contributed nine points and three assists for the Colonials.

Detroit was led by Makayla Jackson’s 13 points. Jasmine Edwards added 11 points and two blocks, while Aaliyah McQueen finished with nine points. The Titans struggled to find consistent offense, shooting under 30% from the floor for the game.

The Colonials dominated the glass and capitalized on second-chance opportunities, a key factor in maintaining their lead despite committing 18 turnovers. Robert Morris also held a significant advantage at the free-throw line, attempting 31 shots to Detroit’s 18.

An announced crowd of 416 watched as Robert Morris completed a regular-season sweep of the Titans, having also won 60-52 in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 16.

The win keeps Robert Morris in contention in the upper half of the Horizon League standings as the regular season enters its final stretch. The Colonials will look to build on the victory when they travel to face Oakland on Saturday. Detroit, mired in a difficult season, will seek to regroup on the road at IU Indy on Sunday.

The game unfolded largely as predicted by advanced metrics, with Interstat’s ELO system giving Robert Morris a 78.8% probability of victory. The Colonials’ veteran presence and superior execution in the pivotal third quarter proved the difference.
