High Point Aims to Extend Dominance at Charleston Southern

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — The surging High Point Panthers will look to continue their commanding season when they visit the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in a Big South Conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night.

High Point (18-2, 7-0 Big South) enters the CSU Field House contest riding a nine-game winning streak, having dominated conference play by an average margin of 24.1 points. The Panthers are coming off a 73-44 rout of Gardner-Webb on Friday, where Aaliyah Collins scored 15 points and Peyton Gerdes added 13.

Gerdes, a key contributor, has averaged 7.4 points over her last seven games, including a 13-point performance against Gardner-Webb. High Point’s balanced attack and stifling defense have been trademarks of their success, holding opponents to just 54.1 points per game during their current streak.

Charleston Southern (6-14, 4-3) seeks to build momentum after a 77-73 road victory at Presbyterian on Friday, which snapped a three-game skid. Nevaeh Jones led the Buccaneers in that win with 15 points and a remarkable seven blocked shots. Tyonna Bailey added 16 points and Asha Sra posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.

Despite their record, the Buccaneers have been competitive in conference play, but will face their toughest Big South test yet. Charleston Southern’s defense, which allows 70.2 points per game, will be challenged by a High Point offense averaging 74.3 points.

The Panthers won the first meeting this season 76-43 at Presbyterian on Jan. 7. These teams are scheduled for a rematch in High Point on Feb. 14.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at CSU Field House.
