Georgia Tech at Florida State

Preview: Georgia Tech at Florida State Women’s Basketball

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the back half of Atlantic Coast Conference play will meet Sunday when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets visit the Florida State Seminoles at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Both squads enter with sub-.500 overall records. Georgia Tech is 8-12, while Florida State sits at 7-13. The matchup represents a chance for either to gain ground in the conference standings.

The Yellow Jackets are looking to rebound from a 54-46 home loss to North Carolina on Thursday. Georgia Tech has shown resilience, however, with recent wins over Clemson and an overtime victory against Notre Dame to open the new year. A key factor will be the performance of guard Brianna Turnage, who is coming off a 39-minute effort against the Tar Heels where she scored seven points and dished two assists. Turnage has been a versatile contributor, recording a triple-double (3 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists) in the win over Notre Dame and pulling down 17 rebounds against Wofford in late December.

Florida State arrives with some confidence after a decisive 73-51 road win at SMU on Thursday. Guard Jasmine Shavers led that charge, scoring 22 points in 33 minutes. Shavers has been a consistent offensive threat, averaging 15.8 points over her last five games, including an 18-point performance in a double-overtime loss to Virginia.

The Seminoles’ defense, which held SMU to 51 points, will be tested by a Georgia Tech team that has struggled offensively in its last two outings, scoring only 46 points in each. Conversely, Florida State will need to find scoring consistency beyond Shavers to improve its 1-4 home record in ACC play.

Historically, Florida State has dominated the series, winning 16 of the last 18 meetings. The teams last met in the 2025 ACC Tournament, a 78-63 Seminoles victory.

Sunday’s contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST tip-off. Following this game, Georgia Tech will travel to face Syracuse on Jan. 29, while Florida State’s next matchup is at Clemson on Feb. 1.
