However, the Red Wolves mounted a determined comeback in the fourth, matching their first-quarter offensive output with 20 points to force the game into overtime tied at 70-70.
Crislyn Rose was the catalyst for the Arkansas State victory. The guard from Sachse, Texas, delivered a stellar performance, playing 36 minutes and scoring a game-high 26 points. She also dished out four assists, orchestrating the offense and consistently breaking down the Tarleton State defense.
Rose received significant support from her teammates in a balanced scoring attack. Marlie Dickerson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was a force on the interior, just missing a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds while also adding three assists.
The Red Wolves’ victory was built on efficiency in key statistical areas. They dominated scoring in the paint, outscoring the Texans 38-28, and capitalized heavily on opponent mistakes, scoring 21 points off turnovers compared to just nine for Tarleton State.
For the Texans, who also moved to 1-1 on the young season, the loss came despite a strong individual effort from Shadasia Brackens. The Fairfield, Texas, native was a handful for the Red Wolves’ defense, pouring in 20 points and pulling down nine rebounds in just 27 minutes of play.

Tessa Engelman of Calgary, Canada, was a presence in the post, narrowly missing a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The game was a tale of two results for the teams following their season openers. Arkansas State entered the contest looking to rebound from a narrow 68-66 home loss to Ball State on Monday. Tarleton State, meanwhile, was riding high after a dominant 90-35 victory over Schreiner on the same day. The Red Wolves’ ability to secure a hard-fought road win against a confident opponent provides a significant momentum boost.
According to the Interstat ELO system, Arkansas State was projected as the favorite with a 66.40 percent probability to win, and they ultimately lived up to that billing with their overtime performance.
Arkansas State now looks ahead to a challenging road test, traveling to face the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday. Tarleton State has a quick turnaround, returning to Wisdom Gym to host Houston Christian on Sunday.
The contest was a showcase of early-season resilience for the Red Wolves, who demonstrated the poise to win a close game on the road after suffering a last-second defeat in their opener. For the Texans, it was a missed opportunity to secure a statement victory against a favored opponent, but their competitive performance through regulation indicates a team capable of challenging opponents throughout the season. Both teams will continue to build on these experiences as they progress through their respective non-conference schedules.
