Idaho State at Weber State
OGDEN, Utah (Interstat) — A surging Idaho State looks to continue its push near the top of the Big Sky Conference standings when it visits struggling Weber State in a women’s basketball rematch Saturday.
The Bengals (18-9, 10-4 Big Sky), winners of seven of their last nine, will face the Wildcats (9-18, 5-9) at the Dee Events Center. Idaho State won the first meeting 65-54 in Pocatello on Jan. 31, part of a dominant stretch where they held opponents under 70 points in eight consecutive games.
Idaho State is led by forward Piper Carlson, who is coming off a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-61 loss at Montana State last Saturday. Over her last eight games, Carlson is averaging 12.1 points and 7.6 rebounds, providing consistent production in the frontcourt.
Weber State aims to build on the momentum of an 86-79 overtime road win at Montana last Saturday, which snapped a three-game skid. The Wildcats are powered by guard Antoniette Emma-Nnopu, who erupted for a career-high 28 points in that victory. She scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the first matchup against Idaho State.
Despite their overall record, the Wildcats have shown resilience at home in conference play, while the Bengals have been strong on the road. Idaho State’s defense, which allows just 60.2 points per game, will be tested by Emma-Nnopu and backcourt mate Lanae Billy, who added 23 points against Montana.
The game tips off at 2 p.m. MST Saturday as both teams make their final preparations for the Big Sky tournament.
