Bethune-Cookman at Southern
BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — The Southern women’s basketball team looks to solidify its standing and extend a winning streak when it hosts struggling Bethune-Cookman in a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Clark Activity Center.
The Lady Jaguars (15-11, 12-3 SWAC) enter on a three-game win streak, most recently an 80-61 victory over Florida A&M on Thursday. Guard Olivia Delancy led the way in that contest, scoring 20 points in just 17 minutes. Delancy has been a key offensive catalyst, averaging 17.5 points over her last four games.
Southern, which sits near the top of the conference standings, previously defeated Bethune-Cookman 61-50 on Jan. 8.
The visiting Wildcats (6-23, 5-10) are looking to halt a four-game skid, including a heartbreaking 71-68 overtime loss at Grambling on Thursday. Despite the team’s struggles, guard Daimoni Dorsey has been a consistent performer, scoring in double figures in six of her last eight games. She posted 10 points and two assists in the overtime defeat.
Bethune-Cookman’s season has been marked by close losses, with three of their last five defeats coming by five points or fewer. Finding a way to finish in tight games will be critical against a Southern squad that boasts a strong 9-2 record at home this season.
The game tips off at 3 p.m. CST and is a crucial late-season conference clash for both teams as they prepare for the upcoming SWAC tournament. Southern will aim to maintain its momentum, while Bethune-Cookman seeks a signature road upset to build confidence for its final regular-season game next week.
