Sam Houston at UTEP
EL PASO, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Sam Houston squad looks to continue its climb in the Conference USA standings when it visits a UTEP team seeking consistency on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
The Bearkats (13-6, 4-2 CUSA) have won three of their last four, including a 62-57 victory over Kennesaw State last Saturday. They are led by forward Deborah Ogayemi, who is coming off a dominant 18-point, 9-rebound performance in 40 minutes. Over her last seven games, Ogayemi is averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, providing a steady interior presence.
The Miners (10-10, 2-5) snapped a five-game skid with a 79-69 win over New Mexico State, also on Jan. 31. Guard Portia Adams keyed that victory with a stellar all-around line of 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Adams has been a bright spot, scoring 21 points in two of her last four outings, but UTEP has struggled defensively, allowing 73 points or more in four of its five conference losses.
This matchup at the Don Haskins Center pits Sam Houston’s defensive strength against UTEP’s offensive potential. The Bearkats have held opponents to 57 points or fewer in three of their last five wins. UTEP’s conference fortunes will hinge on finding support for Adams and improving its perimeter defense.
The teams will meet again in Huntsville on March 5 to close the regular season. For now, Sam Houston aims to solidify its position near the top of the league, while the Miners fight to get back to .500 in conference play.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
