Prairie View at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt lengthy slides will meet Saturday when the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers visit the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in a Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup at Moore Gymnasium.

Both programs have struggled this season. Prairie View enters with a 2-18 overall record, while Bethune-Cookman sits at 3-19. Each team carries a seven-game losing streak into the contest, with the Wildcats’ last win coming on Jan. 3 and the Lady Panthers’ last victory on Dec. 10.

The game may hinge on which team can find consistent offense. In their last outing, a 72-63 loss to Texas Southern on Jan. 31, Prairie View showed flashes. CJ Wilson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Crystal Schultz scored a team-high 21 points. Wilson, a key player for the Lady Panthers, has averaged 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds over her last five games.

Bethune-Cookman is coming off a 78-60 loss at Alabama State on Jan. 31, where Daimoni Dorsey led the team with 13 points. Dorsey has been a focal point for the Wildcats, averaging 8.7 points per game over her last seven contests. Support from players like Madison Holden and Jordan Brooks, who combined for 22 points in the loss to Alabama State, will be crucial.

Defensive lapses have plagued both sides. During its losing streak, Prairie View has allowed an average of 68.4 points per game, while Bethune-Cookman has surrendered 66.1 points per game in the same span.

The matchup represents one of the more winnable opportunities remaining on each team’s schedule as they look to build momentum for the final month of conference play. Prairie View continues a three-game road swing, while Bethune-Cookman plays the second of a four-game homestand.

Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in Daytona Beach.
