Georgia Southern at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Georgia Southern looks to continue its climb up the Sun Belt standings when it visits a Texas State team seeking consistency Wednesday night at Strahan Coliseum.

The Eagles (15-5, 7-2 Sun Belt) have won five of their last six, including a 70-67 victory over Southern Mississippi on Jan. 28. They are led by guard Kishyah Anderson, who erupted for a season-high 31 points in that win. Over her last seven games, Anderson is averaging 16.9 points, including four performances of 22 points or more.

Georgia Southern’s success has been built on a balanced attack and strong defense, holding opponents to 60 points or fewer in four of their last six victories.

The host Bobcats (10-11, 4-5) are coming off a 68-59 road win at Georgia State on Saturday but have alternated wins and losses over their past seven contests. Their fortunes often follow the play of forward Kyra Anderson, who recorded a dominant 21-point, 15-rebound double-double in the win over the Panthers. It was her third double-double in the last five games, a stretch where she is averaging 17.2 points and 11.2 rebounds.

Texas State will need a similar effort to counter a Georgia Southern squad that has been strong on the road in conference play, with wins at South Alabama and Georgia State already this month. The Bobcats are 6-3 at home this season.

The matchup features two of the Sun Belt’s top individual talents sharing a surname, with Georgia Southern’s Kishyah Anderson and Texas State’s Kyra Anderson likely to be central figures. How Texas State contains the Eagles’ high-scoring guard, and whether the Bobcats can establish their own post presence, will be key.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday. Following this game, Georgia Southern travels to face Miami (Ohio) on Feb. 7, while Texas State’s next contest is at South Alabama on Feb. 12.
