Louisiana-Lafayette at James Madison
HARRISONBURG, Va. (Interstat) — A struggling Louisiana-Lafayette squad visits a James Madison team looking to rebound when the women’s basketball programs meet Thursday night at the JMU Convocation Center.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (2-18) have lost eight of their last nine, including a 48-68 home defeat to Appalachian State last Friday. Guard Kahlen Norris led the team with 15 points in that loss and has been a bright spot, averaging 11.0 points over her last three contests. Louisiana-Lafayette’s only win since mid-December was a 69-66 victory over Coastal Carolina on Jan. 21.
The Dukes (14-8) aim to bounce back from a 67-74 road loss at Arkansas State last Sunday, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Guard Bree Robinson has been a consistent scorer for JMU, reaching double figures in five of her last six games, including a 19-point performance in a rout of Marshall on Jan. 15. She averages 13.3 points per game during that stretch.
James Madison has dominated at home this season, posting a 9-2 record in Harrisonburg. Their defense has been key, holding opponents to an average of 59.2 points per game at the Convocation Center. In contrast, Louisiana-Lafayette has found wins scarce, with its offense often stifled; the Cajuns have been held under 60 points in 14 of their 20 games.
The matchup pits one of the Sun Belt Conference’s top home teams against a road-weary opponent. Louisiana-Lafayette is 0-10 away from home this season, losing those games by an average margin of 24.2 points.
This is the only scheduled meeting between the schools this season. James Madison won both contests last year.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday. James Madison hosts South Alabama on Saturday, while Louisiana-Lafayette travels to face Marshall.
