CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Interstat) — North Carolina edged Syracuse 77-71 in overtime Sunday in an Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball game at Dean Smith Center.

The Tar Heels, who led by as many as 12 in the third quarter, saw the Orange rally to force the extra period. Syracuse scored 21 points in the third and held North Carolina to nine in the fourth to tie the game. The Tar Heels dominated overtime, outscoring Syracuse 9-3 to secure the win.

Nyla Harris led North Carolina with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Lanie Grant added 17 points. Syracuse’s offense was paced by 38 points in the paint.

North Carolina improved to 17-5. Syracuse fell to 16-4.
