Detroit at Milwaukee
Preview: Detroit Titans at Milwaukee Panthers
MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — Two Horizon League teams seeking to end prolonged slides will meet Thursday when the Detroit Titans visit the Milwaukee Panthers in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
Both teams enter on losing streaks. Detroit (4-14 overall) has dropped seven consecutive games, while Milwaukee (6-14) has lost three straight following a brief two-game win streak earlier this month.
The Panthers won the first meeting this season, 74-61 at Detroit on Jan. 8. In that game, Milwaukee’s Madison Fitzgibbon scored 10 points. She is a key player to watch for the Panthers, coming off a 19-point performance in a loss to Green Bay on Saturday.
For the Titans, forward Jasmine Edwards has been a consistent bright spot. She is averaging a double-double over her last seven games, including a 12-point, 10-rebound effort in Sunday’s 80-70 loss to Oakland. In the Jan. 8 loss to Milwaukee, Edwards led Detroit with 15 points.
Detroit’s struggles have been marked by offensive inconsistency, failing to reach 70 points in any of its seven straight losses. Milwaukee’s recent issues mirror that, having been held under 62 points in its last three defeats.
The game represents a critical opportunity for both squads to gain traction in league play. With the rematch just over two weeks old, adjustments from the first contest will be pivotal. Detroit will look to control the interior through Edwards, while Milwaukee will rely on Fitzgibbon’s scoring and the home-court advantage to sweep the season series.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Thursday. Milwaukee hosts Oakland next on Saturday, while Detroit travels to face Green Bay on Jan. 24.
