Georgia Southern at Georgia State
ATLANTA (Interstat) — A surging Georgia Southern women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak and complete a season sweep of rival Georgia State when the Sun Belt Conference foes meet Wednesday night at GSU Sports Arena.
The Eagles (12-4, 4-1 Sun Belt) have won five of their last six games, including a decisive 68-47 home victory over the Panthers on Dec. 18. Georgia Southern enters on a three-game win streak following a 77-60 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday.
Georgia State (7-10, 2-3) aims to halt that momentum and defend its home court after snapping a three-game skid with a 72-70 overtime win against James Madison, also on Saturday.
A key matchup will feature Georgia Southern’s high-scoring guard Kishyah Anderson against Georgia State’s forward Morgan Robinson-Nwagwu. Anderson has been on a tear, averaging over 20 points per game in her last five contests, including a 26-point performance in a win over James Madison on Jan. 7. In the first meeting this season, Anderson contributed 7 points in 27 minutes.
Robinson-Nwagwu led the Panthers with 14 points and 6 rebounds in their overtime win over James Madison. She was held to just 2 points in the December loss to the Eagles.
Beyond the stars, Georgia Southern’s balance has been crucial. In the win over Old Dominion, Destiny Garrett scored 23 points and McKenna Eddings added 18. Georgia State counters with guard Crystal Henderson, who posted 16 points and 5 assists in the team’s most recent victory.
The Panthers will need a stronger defensive effort after allowing the Eagles to shoot 46% from the field in the first matchup. Georgia Southern has held opponents to 60 points or fewer in four of its last six games.
Wednesday’s contest is the second in a tough three-game stretch for Georgia State, which hosts Appalachian State on Saturday. Georgia Southern visits James Madison next, also on Saturday.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST in Atlanta.
