Troy at Louisiana-Monroe
MONROE, La. (Interstat) — A surging Troy women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant start to Sun Belt Conference play when it visits Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
The Trojans (13-3 overall) have won their first two league games by an average of 28.5 points, most recently routing Arkansas State 86-64 on Saturday. Troy’s high-powered offense, which has scored 80 or more points in nine games this season, will test a Warhawks squad seeking consistency.
Louisiana-Monroe (7-8) is 2-2 in its last four games, coming off a 73-67 road loss at South Alabama. The Warhawks have struggled against top competition, with all eight losses coming by double digits, including a 38-point defeat at Indiana and a 37-point loss at Alabama.
A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s standout guards. Troy’s Fortuna Ngnawo enters on a hot streak, averaging 17.8 points and 11.0 rebounds over her last six games. She posted a 22-point, 17-rebound effort in a narrow loss at Southern Mississippi on Jan. 3. For ULM, Nakiyah Mays-Prince has been a steadying force, averaging 10.2 points and 4.2 assists in the same span. She scored 15 points with four assists in the loss to South Alabama.
Troy has dominated recent non-conference play and carries significant momentum, while the Warhawks have found wins harder to secure outside Monroe. ULM’s most impressive victory was a 61-51 road win at Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 8.
The game is the first of a home-and-home series this season, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 14 in Troy, Alabama.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CST Wednesday. Troy travels to face Texas State on Saturday, while Louisiana-Monroe hosts Louisiana-Lafayette the same day.
