San Francisco at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Interstat) — The San Francisco Dons, coming off a strong offensive performance, will visit the struggling Long Beach State 49ers in a non-conference women’s basketball game Thursday at Walter Pyramid.

San Francisco (2-2) evened its record with an 80-69 home victory over UC San Diego on Sunday. Candy Edokpaigbe led the way with a double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Aina Cargol added 11 points and six assists, while Noelia Mourino Freiria contributed 16 points and eight boards.

The Dons have shown a pattern of responding to losses with decisive wins, having also defeated UNC Greensboro by 24 points earlier this month.

Long Beach State (0-4) is still searching for its first win after a narrow 57-54 home loss to Sacramento State on Saturday. Despite the team’s record, JaQuoia Jones-Brown has been a standout, pouring in 29 points in the defeat. Khylee Pepe nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

The 49ers’ season has been defined by offensive struggles, failing to score more than 60 points in any contest and suffering double-digit losses to California Baptist, Colorado State and Wyoming.

Thursday’s matchup pits San Francisco’s balanced scoring attack against a Long Beach State team in need of a breakthrough performance to turn its season around.
