Texas Women Dominate Louisiana-Lafayette in Lopsided Victory

AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Monday night, overwhelming Louisiana-Lafayette in a 100-38 victory at the Frank Erwin Center.

From the opening tip, the Longhorns established a dominant tone, outscoring the Ragin’ Cajuns 28-9 in the first quarter and never looking back. The defensive pressure from Texas was relentless, forcing Louisiana-Lafayette into 30 turnovers, which the Longhorns converted into a cascade of easy transition baskets. The home team also tallied 18 steals and seven blocks, stifling any semblance of offensive rhythm for the visitors.

The statistical disparity painted a clear picture of the lopsided affair. Texas was ruthlessly efficient on offense, shooting 59 percent from the floor on 39-of-66 shooting. Louisiana-Lafayette, by contrast, managed to connect on only 13 of its 50 field goal attempts, a 26 percent clip. The Longhorns also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Ragin’ Cajuns and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities.

Kyla Oldacre, a 6-foot-6 center from Mason, Ohio, led a balanced and explosive Texas scoring attack. In just 18 minutes of action, she poured in 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, showcasing her efficiency in the paint. Fellow post player Breya Cunningham, from Chula Vista, California, controlled the interior with a game-high 14 rebounds to go with nine points.

The Longhorns’ backcourt was equally impactful. Point guard Rori Harmon of Houston orchestrated the offense with 12 points and five assists, while Madison Booker of Ridgeland, Mississippi, added nine points and five assists. The depth of Texas was on full display as 10 different players scored, with Justice Carlton of Katy contributing 13 points and four blocks, and Aaliyah Crump of Shakopee, Minnesota, adding 11 points.

For Louisiana-Lafayette, the lone bright spot was the individual effort of Imani Daniel. The guard from Gramercy, Louisiana, scored a game-high 17 points, but received little support as her team struggled against the constant defensive pressure. The Ragin’ Cajuns’ offensive struggles were encapsulated by an offensive rating of just 47.7 on 80 possessions.

The game was effectively decided by halftime, with Texas holding a 49-15 lead after limiting Louisiana-Lafayette to just six points in the second quarter. The Longhorns continued to extend their advantage after the break, cruising to the decisive win in front of 8,677 fans.

With the victory, Texas remains undefeated, improving its record to 3-0 to start the season. The Longhorns have now won their first three games by an average margin of 54 points. Louisiana-Lafayette falls to 0-3 and will look to secure its first win on the road at Nicholls State on Friday. Texas will next host Texas Southern on Sunday.
