Princeton at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Princeton Tigers, fueled by a dominant double-double from Fadima Tall and a relentless defensive effort, rallied from a slow start to defeat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 67-61 in a non-conference women’s basketball game Sunday at Hank McCamish Pavilion.

In a game defined by ball security, or the lack thereof, Princeton forced Georgia Tech into 26 turnovers, converting those miscues into 27 points. The Tigers’ defense compensated for a challenging shooting afternoon, as they finished 25 of 68 from the floor and just 6 of 27 from three-point range.

Georgia Tech, which entered the game with a 59.8 percent probability to win according to Interstat’s ELO system, controlled the early stages. The Yellow Jackets led 15-8 after the first quarter, but Princeton began to chip away in the second period. The Tigers outscored Georgia Tech 20-17 before halftime to narrow the gap and trailed 32-28 at the break.

The third quarter was a tight affair, with Georgia Tech extending its lead slightly by outscoring Princeton 18-15. However, the final period belonged entirely to the visiting Tigers. Princeton erupted for 24 points in the fourth quarter while its defense clamped down, holding the Yellow Jackets to just 11 points to secure the comeback victory.

Tall, a 6-foot forward from Silver Spring, Maryland, was the cornerstone of the win, playing 34 minutes and recording a stat line of 16 points and 14 rebounds. She was instrumental in Princeton’s 15-8 advantage in offensive rebounds, which led to numerous second-chance opportunities.

She was supported by a strong performance from Olivia Hutcherson, who scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds in her return to her home state. Madison St. Rose added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Ashley Chea contributed 12 points in a team-high 39 minutes on the court.

For Georgia Tech, Ines Noguero led the scoring with 13 points and added seven rebounds. Catherine Alben also scored 15 points, and Brianna Turnage pulled down 10 rebounds to go with five points. Despite shooting a more efficient 22 of 46 from the field, the Yellow Jackets’ high turnover count and Princeton’s 15-6 edge in steals proved insurmountable.

The game was played in front of an announced crowd of 1,809.

With the win, Princeton opens its season at 1-0. The Tigers travel to face Villanova on Wednesday. Georgia Tech falls to 1-1 on the young season and will look to rebound at home against Charleston Southern on Thursday.
