MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Interstat) — The Coe women’s basketball team opened its season with a decisive 59-40 victory over cross-town rival Cornell College on Friday night at the Small Multi-Sport Center. The Kohawks seized control early, holding the Rams to just six points in the first quarter while building an 11-6 lead. The second quarter proved even more dominant for Coe, which outscored Cornell College 23-9 to take a commanding 34-15 advantage into halftime.
