Neither team converted on the power play, and Minnesota’s penalty kill helped protect the lead in the third.

The result continued a difficult stretch for New York, which had won three of its previous five games before the loss. The Sirens had beaten Montreal and Toronto during that run, but they also had dropped overtime decisions to Ottawa and Minnesota. Minnesota, meanwhile, had won two of its previous three games, including a 6-2 home win over Seattle and an overtime victory at New York. The Frost’s only loss in that stretch came in overtime against Montreal. The teams had met earlier this season, with Minnesota winning 3-2 in overtime on the road.

Minnesota had dropped an overtime decision to Montreal in its previous game and had beaten New York in overtime earlier this season. New York had lost to Ottawa in overtime in its previous game. The Frost will next host Vancouver, while the Sirens will visit Boston. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Minnesota with a 63.1 percent probability to win this game.
