DENVER (Interstat) — Bo Nix scored on a 1-yard run with 47 seconds remaining and Wil Lutz added the extra point, lifting Denver to a 30-26 victory over the L.A. Rams on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High. The game drew 76,333, and Denver improved to 2-1 while the Rams fell to 1-2. The Broncos trailed 16-0 at halftime before storming back in a fourth quarter that swung on turnovers, replay review and two late goal-line runs by Nix.
The Rams controlled the first half behind Matthew Stafford and Harrison Mevis. Stafford opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Higbee with 4:55 left in the first quarter, and Mevis added a 36-yard field goal early in the second. Denver’s Wil Lutz missed a 43-yard field goal in the first quarter from the left upright, and Mevis later connected from 35 and 40 yards before halftime. The Rams led 16-0 at the break. Stafford finished 30 of 55 for 390 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, adding two runs for 13 yards. Higbee caught eight passes for 62 yards and a score. Lutz’s extra point gave Denver a 23-19 lead with 4:49 left. Hufanga finished with five tackles, one sack, two interceptions and one touchdown.
The Rams answered quickly. Stafford found Mumpfield deep right for a 48-yard touchdown with 3:38 remaining, and Mevis added the extra point to put the Rams back in front 26-23. That set up Denver’s final drive. With 51 seconds left, Nix appeared to score on a 2-yard run, but the replay official reviewed the ruling that the runner broke the plane and reversed the call. Nix was marked out of bounds at the Rams 1. On the next snap, Nix went up the middle for 1 yard and a touchdown with 47 seconds remaining. Lutz made the extra point to complete the scoring at 30-26.
