Chicago at San Francisco

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Interstat) — A critical late-season clash with significant playoff implications will unfold Sunday at Levi’s Stadium when the San Francisco 49ers host the Chicago Bears, with both teams carrying identical 11-4 records.

The matchup pits two of the NFC’s top contenders in a potential postseason preview. The Bears arrive after a gritty 22-16 overtime victory over Green Bay last Saturday, while the 49ers are riding a three-game win streak, most recently a 48-27 offensive showcase at Indianapolis.

All eyes will be on a compelling duel at quarterback. Chicago’s Caleb Williams, the dynamic second-year signal-caller, has been a catalyst for the Bears’ success, contributing significantly with his arm and legs. In the win over Green Bay, he passed for 250 yards and two touchdowns while adding 30 rushing yards. Over his last three games, Williams has accounted for six total touchdowns.

He will be countered by San Francisco’s Brock Purdy, who is playing at an MVP level. Purdy is coming off a near-flawless performance against the Colts, completing 34 of 25 passes for 295 yards and five touchdowns. In his last three outings, he has thrown nine touchdown passes, adding a dangerous rushing element with 44 yards on the ground in a win over Tennessee.

The Bears’ offense, fueled by Williams and a balanced run game featuring D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, will test a 49ers defense that has been vulnerable at times. San Francisco’s high-powered attack, led by Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey, faces a Chicago unit that has held three of its last five opponents to 16 points or fewer.

Despite the identical records, betting markets slightly favor the home team. The 49ers are 3-point favorites according to FanDuel Sportsbook, with an over/under set at 52.5 points. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 49ers victory, 28-21.

The stakes are high, with both teams jockeying for division titles and first-round playoff byes. The Bears will look to prove their contender status on the road, while the 49ers aim to defend their home field and solidify their position atop the conference.

Kickoff is set for 1:25 p.m. PST on Sunday, Dec. 28.
