Myers’ Field Goal Lifts Seahawks Over Colts in Final Seconds

SEATTLE (Interstat) — Jason Myers drilled a 56-yard field goal with 18 seconds remaining to complete a fourth-quarter comeback, lifting the Seattle Seahawks to an 18-16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Lumen Field.

In a game dominated by defense and field position, the Seahawks erased a 13-point second-half deficit by scoring the final nine points, all on Myers’ right foot. His game-winner, his sixth successful kick of the afternoon, capped a frantic final minute that saw the Colts briefly take the lead only for Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold to engineer a rapid response.

The decisive sequence began after Colts kicker Blake Grupe connected on a 60-yard field goal with 47 seconds left, putting Indianapolis ahead 16-15. Darnold, who finished 22 of 36 for 271 yards, immediately found Rashid Shaheed for a 17-yard gain to the Indianapolis 46. After spiking the ball to stop the clock, Darnold hit Shaheed again along the left sideline for 8 yards, setting up Myers for the long-distance winner before a crowd of 68,771.

Myers was perfect on the day, hitting from 47, 52, 46, 32, 30, and 56 yards. His reliability provided all of Seattle’s scoring until the final moments, as the Seahawks’ offense struggled to find the end zone against a stubborn Colts defense.

Indianapolis, which fell to 8-6, controlled much of the contest with a methodical, run-heavy attack. Jonathan Taylor carried the load with 25 rushes for 87 yards, helping the Colts build a 13-3 halftime lead on a Grupe field goal and a 7-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers to Josh Downs late in the second quarter. Rivers was efficient, completing 18 of 27 passes for 120 yards and the score, but the Colts’ offense was unable to sustain drives in the second half, managing only another Grupe field goal in the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks’ defense, led by linebacker Ernest Jones IV with 10 tackles and safety Nick Emmanwori who had seven tackles and a sack, consistently bent but did not break. They forced the Colts to settle for field goals on multiple promising drives and came up with a critical takeaway on the game’s final play, as cornerback Coby Bryant intercepted a Rivers Hail Mary attempt to seal the outcome.

Seattle’s offense found a rhythm just in time. Darnold spread the ball effectively, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba catching seven passes for 113 yards and Shaheed adding five receptions for 74 yards along with 131 combined return yards. The ground game was stifled, however, as the Colts’ front seven, featuring linebackers Zaire Franklin and Germaine Pratt who each had 10 tackles, limited Seattle to just 48 rushing yards.

The most important part of the game was the final 47-second drive executed by Darnold and the Seahawks. After Grupe’s career-long 60-yard kick appeared to have stolen the victory for Indianapolis, Seattle used its timeouts wisely and Darnold displayed poise, targeting Shaheed twice to move into field goal range for Myers, who delivered under pressure.

The victory improved Seattle’s record to 11-3, keeping them firmly in the NFC playoff picture. The loss was a damaging blow to Indianapolis’ postseason hopes in the AFC, marking their third defeat in the last four games.

The Seahawks host the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, while the Colts return home to face the San Francisco 49ers next Monday.
