Bears Dominate Browns at Soldier Field to Move to 10‑4
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Chicago Bears delivered a dominant and comprehensive performance Sunday at Soldier Field, overwhelming the Cleveland Browns 31 to 3 in a one-sided National Football League contest. A crowd of 54,051 watched as the Bears, now 10-4, solidified their playoff positioning while the Browns, losers of three straight, fell to 3-11.
The most important part of the game was Chicago’s immediate and sustained defensive dominance, which suffocated Cleveland’s offense from the opening kickoff and created short fields and scoring opportunities for their own unit. This set a tone of utter control that never relented.
The Bears established their superiority in a decisive first quarter, scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions while the Browns’ offense was trapped in its own territory. After a 52-yard return by Devin Duvernay set up excellent field position, Chicago needed just eight plays to cover 47 yards. The drive culminated in a 6-yard touchdown run by D’Andre Swift, giving the Bears a 7-0 lead.
Cleveland’s ensuing series was emblematic of its day. Starting at their own 1-yard line after a penalty, the Browns managed only six yards before punting. Chicago took over near midfield and promptly marched 60 yards in nine plays. Quarterback Caleb Williams capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore, extending the lead to 14-0 with 1:29 remaining in the opening period. The Browns managed just 15 total yards in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Cleveland’s defense stiffen temporarily, forcing a missed 35-yard field goal by Cairo Santos. Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders then connected with receiver Isaiah Bond for a 42-yard gain, providing a rare spark. The drive stalled, however, and the Bears defense closed the half with authority, intercepting Sanders in the end zone on a desperation heave to preserve the 14-0 lead at the break.
Any hope of a Cleveland comeback was extinguished early in the third quarter. Following a Browns field goal that made it 14-3, the Bears’ defense struck again. On Cleveland’s next possession, linebacker D’Marco Jackson intercepted a Sanders pass intended for tight end Harold Fannin Jr. at the Cleveland 22-yard line. On the very next play, Williams found Moore for a 22-yard touchdown strike, pushing the lead to 21-3.
The Bears’ defense was not finished. On Cleveland’s subsequent drive, Sanders was intercepted again, this time by cornerback Jaylon Johnson. Chicago then embarked on a 12-play, 78-yard drive that consumed over five minutes of clock and was finished by Swift’s second rushing touchdown, a 17-yard scamper that made it 28-3 late in the third quarter.
Chicago added a fourth-quarter field goal by Santos to complete the scoring. The Browns’ final drive reached the Chicago 4-yard line in the closing seconds, but the Bears defense registered two more sacks to snuff out the threat as time expired.
Williams efficiently directed the Bears’ offense, completing 17 of 28 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns. Swift was the engine on the ground, rushing for 98 yards on 18 carries with two scores. Moore caught four passes for 69 yards and both of Williams’ touchdown throws. Luther Burden III led all receivers with six catches for 84 yards.
For Cleveland, Sanders struggled under constant pressure, completing 18 of 35 passes for 177 yards with three interceptions. He was sacked five times. The Browns’ running game was nonexistent, managing just 26 yards on 18 attempts. Rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger recorded a game-high 14 tackles in a losing effort.
The Bears’ defense was the story, generating five sacks, three interceptions, and allowing just 203 total yards. Linebacker T.J. Edwards led the team with nine tackles, while Jackson had seven tackles, a sack, and a pivotal interception. Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson also had an interception.
Chicago now looks ahead to a short-week rematch with the Green Bay Packers on Friday afternoon at Soldier Field. The Browns will return home to host the Buffalo Bills next Sunday, seeking to end their current skid.
