Seattle at Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Seattle Seahawks used a dominant second and third quarter to build a commanding lead and then held off a late rally by the Tennessee Titans to secure a 30-24 victory in a National Football League game Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
A crowd of 60,487 watched as the Seahawks improved their record to 8-3, while the Titans fell to 1-10 on the season.
The game was a tale of two halves, with Seattle’s offense finding its rhythm after a slow start. After a first quarter that ended in a 3-3 tie, the Seahawks erupted for 13 points in the second quarter and 14 more in the third to take a 30-10 lead.
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold was efficient, completing 16 of 26 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. His primary target was Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had a spectacular performance with eight receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Smith-Njigba’s 63-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter and his 13-yard score in the third were pivotal plays that stretched the Seattle lead.
The Seahawks’ ground game was also effective, led by Kenneth Walker III, who rushed for 71 yards on 11 carries. Zach Charbonnet added a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Kicker Jason Myers was perfect on the day, connecting on all three of his field goal attempts from 47, 30, and 36 yards.
Tennessee, despite the loss, mounted a significant comeback attempt in the second half. After being held to just a field goal in the first half, the Titans scored 14 points in the third quarter and added a fourth-quarter touchdown to pull within six points.
Titans quarterback Cam Ward was busy, completing 28 of 42 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 37 yards and another score. His 1-yard touchdown pass to Chimere Dike with 43 seconds remaining in the game brought the score to 30-24.
Dike was a versatile weapon for Tennessee, catching five passes for 44 yards and a touchdown while also contributing 98 yards on kick returns. Tight end Gunnar Helm led the Titans in receiving with six catches for 51 yards.
The Titans’ attempt at an onside kick following their final touchdown was unsuccessful, and Seattle was able to run out the clock.
Defensively, the Seahawks were led by linebackers Drake Thomas and Patrick O’Connell, who each recorded nine tackles. O’Connell also notched a sack. The Seattle defense sacked Ward three times in total, with Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II, and Derick Hall also bringing down the quarterback.
For Tennessee, safety Kevin Winston Jr. had a game-high 10 tackles.
The result defied the pregame projections, as Interstat’s game simulator had projected a Tennessee victory, and the Titans had been installed as a 12.5-point favorite. The combined score of 54 points went over the projected total of 40.5.
Seattle will look to continue its winning ways next Sunday when it hosts the Minnesota Vikings. Tennessee will try to snap its losing streak next Sunday when it hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars.
