Minnesota at Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Interstat) — The Green Bay Packers used a dominant defensive performance and a relentless ground game to overpower the Minnesota Vikings 23-6 on a cold Sunday at Lambeau Field.
The Packers improved to 7-3, solidifying their position in the NFC playoff picture, while the Vikings’ struggles continued, dropping them to 4-7 on the season.
Green Bay’s defense was the story of the game, sacking Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy seven times and intercepting him twice. The unit consistently stifled Minnesota’s offense, which never found the end zone and was held to a pair of Will Reichard field goals from 52 and 59 yards.
The Packers’ offensive attack was methodical, led by running back Emanuel Wilson, who gashed the Vikings for 107 yards on 28 carries and scored both of Green Bay’s touchdowns. His first came on a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter, and his second, another 1-yard run in the third quarter, extended the Packers’ lead to 17-6.
Quarterback Jordan Love managed the game efficiently for Green Bay, completing 14 of 21 passes for 139 yards. He did not throw a touchdown pass but was a threat on the ground, scrambling three times for 15 yards. His primary contribution was sustaining drives and avoiding mistakes, as the Packers controlled the clock and field position throughout the contest.
The Vikings’ offense, by contrast, was plagued by inconsistency and the Packers’ relentless pass rush. McCarthy finished the game and was under constant duress. Key contributors for Minnesota included running back Jordan Mason, who had 42 yards on eight carries, and receiver Justin Jefferson, who caught four passes for 48 yards. But the unit could not overcome the negative plays and turnovers.
After Reichard’s long field goal as the first half expired cut the Packers’ lead to 10-6, Green Bay took control coming out of halftime. They engineered a decisive drive capped by Wilson’s second touchdown, making it a two-score game.
From there, the Packers’ defense took over. Linebacker Isaiah McDuffie and safety Evan Williams each came away with interceptions in the second half, snuffing out any potential comeback attempts by the Vikings. Kicker Brandon McManus provided the final margin, connecting on field goals from 32, 30 and 40 yards to seal the victory.
Defensively for the Packers, McDuffie was a force with nine tackles, half a sack and an interception. Devonte Wyatt and Micah Parsons each recorded two sacks in the suffocating team effort. For the Vikings, linebacker Blake Cashman recorded a game-high 17 tackles in a losing effort.
The game’s final score of 29 total points fell well under the pregame over/under line of 41.5. The Packers will look to continue their winning ways on a short week as they travel to face the Detroit Lions on Thursday. The Vikings will regroup before heading to Seattle to take on the Seahawks next Sunday.
