Washington at Dallas

ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes and the Dallas Cowboys defense forced a key safety and a critical interception in a 44-22 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

A crowd of 93,051 watched as the Cowboys evened their season record at 3-3-1, while the Commanders fell to 3-4.

Prescott, the Cowboys quarterback from Haughton, Louisiana, was efficient, completing 21 of 30 passes for 264 yards. He connected with tight end Jake Ferguson for two touchdowns and hit star receiver CeeDee Lamb for a 74-yard score in the first quarter that gave Dallas a 17-8 lead. Lamb finished with five receptions for 110 yards.

The Cowboys’ ground game was equally potent, led by Javonte Williams of Wallace, North Carolina, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

The game began with a flurry of scoring. Dallas opened with a methodical drive capped by a 2-yard touchdown run from Williams. Washington answered immediately, with quarterback Jayden Daniels of San Bernardino, California, finding tight end Zach Ertz for a 5-yard touchdown. The Commanders failed on the two-point conversion, leaving the score at 8-7.

The momentum shifted decisively on the ensuing series. A poor punt by Washington pinned Dallas at its own 1-yard line, and on the next play, the Commanders’ defense tackled Williams in the end zone for a safety, extending their lead to 10-7.

Dallas quickly reclaimed control. After the free kick, Prescott hit Lamb for the long touchdown. Kicker Brandon Aubrey was perfect on the day, adding a 47-yard field goal later in the first quarter and a 61-yarder in the second, helping the Cowboys build a 27-14 halftime lead.

The Cowboys sealed the game with a dominant third quarter, outscoring Washington 14-7. Prescott’s second touchdown pass to Ferguson, a 5-yard connection, pushed the lead to 34-14.

Washington’s offense, which saw both Daniels and backup Marcus Mariota of Honolulu under center, struggled to maintain consistency. Daniels threw for 156 yards and a touchdown and added 35 yards on the ground, but was sacked twice. Mariota relieved him and passed for 63 yards while rushing for 34 more.

The Commanders’ final hope was extinguished in the third quarter when Mariota’s pass was intercepted by Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland of Modesto, California, who returned it 58 yards for a touchdown.

Dallas’s defense was relentless, recording multiple sacks from Donovan Ezeiruaku of Williamstown, New Jersey, Jadeveon Clowney of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and others. Linebackers Kenneth Murray Jr. of Missouri City, Texas, and Shemar James of Mobile, Alabama, each had nine tackles and a sack.

For Washington, linebacker Bobby Wagner of Ontario, California, led the team with eight tackles. Luke McCaffrey of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, provided a spark in the return game, totaling 209 yards on eight kickoff returns.

The Cowboys will look to build on the win when they travel to face the Denver Broncos next Sunday. The Commanders face a short week before a Monday afternoon matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 27.
