Yokohama at Yomiuri

TOKYO (Interstat) — The Yomiuri Giants look to complete a three-game sweep of the Yokohama BayStars on Sunday evening at Tokyo Dome.

Yomiuri (22-18) has won the first two games of the series, 4-3 on Saturday and 2-0 on Friday, extending its dominance in the season series. The Giants have won six of the eight meetings this year. Yokohama (19-19-2) is trying to snap a two-game skid and return to .500.

Right-hander Kentaro Shinogi is a player to watch for the BayStars. In Saturday’s loss, he allowed three earned runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out seven. He also went 0 for 1 at the plate. In his prior start May 9 at Hanshin, Shinogi earned a win with six innings of one-run ball, striking out six and going 1 for 2.

For the Giants, reliever Raidel Martinez has been dominant. In Saturday’s win, he pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run in his past five appearances, covering five innings, with seven strikeouts and just one hit allowed.

Yokohama’s offense has struggled in the series, scoring three total runs. The BayStars’ most productive player Saturday, aside from Shinogi, was first baseman Yoshitomo Tsutsugoh, who went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Yomiuri has won four of its past five games overall. The Giants’ pitching staff has been strong, holding Yokohama to three runs in 18 innings in the series.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Yomiuri victory. Interstat’s ELO system gives the Giants a 51 percent win probability.
