Marines Outslug Fighters in Eight-Inning Victory
CHIBA, Japan (Interstat) — Misho Nishikawa drove in five runs, including a three-run homer, to power the Chiba Lotte Marines past the Nippon-Ham Fighters 9-7 on Wednesday night in a Pacific League game shortened to eight innings.
Nishikawa went 4 for 4. His blast in the third inning answered a five-run top of the frame by the Fighters, highlighted by Taiki Narama’s two-run shot. Lotte added three runs in the fourth and a final run in the eighth on a Nishikawa hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.
Winning pitcher Akira Yagi (1-0) allowed one run over two innings of relief. Takayuki Katoh (2-1) took the loss for Nippon-Ham. Shota Suzuki earned his first save.
The game at Chiba Marine Stadium lasted 3 hours, 32 minutes before being called. Attendance was 24,393.
