Yomiuri at Hiroshima
HIROSHIMA, Japan (Interstat) — A marquee pitching matchup is set for Tuesday evening at Mazda Zoom-Zoom Stadium as the Hiroshima Carp host the Yomiuri Giants in Central League action.
The Giants (5-4) arrive after a 3-2 win over Yokohama on Sunday, while the Carp (4-4) are coming off a 2-1 victory against Hanshin the same day. Both wins were anchored by stellar starting pitching, setting the stage for a potential duel.
Yomiuri will send right-hander Haruto Inoue to the mound. He is fresh off a dominant performance on April 5, allowing one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings in a win over the BayStars. Hiroshima counters with ace Ryoji Kuribayashi, who has been nearly untouchable this season. In his last start on April 5, he went eight innings, giving up one run and striking out nine. On March 29, he threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts against Chunichi.
Offensively, Yomiuri will look to build on Sunday’s late heroics from Takumi Ohshiro, whose pinch-hit, three-run homer provided the winning margin. Hiroshima’s Elehuris Montero, who homered in the April 5 win, will be a key bat in the middle of the lineup.
The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 62 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to Interstat, the Giants are a slight favorite with a 55.3% win probability, and its game simulator projects a 4-3 Yomiuri victory. However, oddsmakers list Hiroshima as a -1.5 run favorite on the spread. The over/under for total runs is set at 6.5.
This game is the first of a three-game series between the clubs. They will meet again Wednesday and Thursday in Hiroshima before both teams embark on new series Friday.
