Hanshin at Hiroshima

HIROSHIMA, Japan (Interstat) — The Hanshin Tigers will look to build on their strong Central League start when they visit the Hiroshima Toyo Carp for the second game of a weekend series Saturday evening at Mazda Zoom-Zoom Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 58 degrees Fahrenheit (14 Celsius).

Hanshin (5-2) won the series opener 4-2 on Friday behind a stellar pitching performance from Shoki Murakami and three RBIs from Shota Morishita. The Tigers have won four of their last five.

Hiroshima (3-3) aims to even the series after Friday’s loss, despite nine strikeouts over six innings from starter Hiroki Tokoda.

The pitching matchup features a quick rematch of capable arms. Murakami, a player to watch for Hanshin, dominated the Carp just yesterday, allowing one earned run on three hits over seven innings with six strikeouts. For Hiroshima, Tokoda gets another look at the Tigers’ lineup after holding them to two earned runs over six frames in the same game.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 4-3 victory for the Tigers, while its ELO rating system gives Hanshin a 66.9% probability to win.

After Saturday’s contest, the teams conclude their three-game set Sunday in Hiroshima.
