Rakuten at Seibu

Preview: Golden Eagles at Lions, Friday, April 3, 2026

TOKOROZAWA, Japan (Interstat) — Two teams seeking consistency will open a weekend series when the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles visit the Saitama Seibu Lions at Seibu Dome on Friday evening.

Both clubs enter the matchup with identical 2-4 records across all competitions this season. Rakuten arrives after a dramatic 5-4 walk-off win over the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks on Thursday, while Seibu looks to rebound from a 7-3 loss to the Orix Buffaloes.

A key figure for the Golden Eagles is shortstop Itsuki Murabayashi, who is coming off a perfect 4-for-4 performance that included a home run and three RBIs in Thursday’s victory. Over his last seven games, he has two multi-hit performances and four RBIs.

For the Lions, reliever Masaya Kuroda has been a bright spot in the bullpen. In two appearances this season, covering two innings, he has allowed just one hit and no runs while striking out two.

Despite the even records, betting markets list the Lions as a pregame favorite with a spread of +1.5. The over/under for total runs is set at 6.5. Projections present a split view: Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 4-3 Lions victory, while its ELO rating system gives Rakuten a slight edge with a 51.3% probability to win.

Rakuten’s recent results have been volatile, including a 10-0 win and a 6-0 loss during their opening series against Orix. Seibu has similarly struggled for offensive momentum, being shut out twice already.

The series continues with games on Saturday and Sunday before both teams embark on new series next week.
