TOKYO (Interstat) — Yuya Yanagi threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout Friday night as the Chunichi Dragons edged the Tokyo Yakult Swallows 1-0 at Meiji Jingu Stadium.

The Dragons scored their only run in the first inning when Seiya Hosokawa singled with one out and runners on first and second. That lone run held up as Yanagi dominated, striking out six and walking none over nine efficient innings. The Swallows managed just three singles.

Yakult starter Kojiro Yoshimura took the hard-luck loss, allowing one run on six hits over five innings. Five Swallows relievers combined for four scoreless frames. Attendance was 27,611 for the game, which lasted 2 hours, 58 minutes.

The win improved Chunichi to 2-5, while Yakult fell to 5-1. The teams continue their series Saturday.
