Hosono’s Historic Gem Leads Fighters to Rout of Marines
SAPPORO, Japan (Interstat) — Haruki Hosono threw a nine-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts Tuesday night as the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters blanked the Chiba Lotte Marines 9-0 at Sapporo Dome.
Hosono faced just 28 batters, one over the minimum, in a dominant 103-pitch performance. The Fighters provided all the offense he needed with a seven-run second inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Kotaro Kiyomiya and a solo shot from Franmil Reyes. Kiyomiya and Reyes each homered again in the seventh inning.
The Marines managed only one baserunner, on a walk. A crowd of 31,457 watched the game, which lasted 2 hours, 31 minutes. Hosono improved to 1-0, while Lotte starter Yuto Kimura took the loss. Nippon-Ham evened its record at 1-3, while Lotte fell to 2-2.
