Utah vs. Edmonton

EDMONTON (Interstat) — The Utah Mammoth will visit the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday in an NHL game at Rexall Place.

Utah enters at 5-2, while Edmonton is 5-1. The Mammoth have won five of seven games and are coming off a 5-4 home victory over Toronto. Mikhail Sergachev had a goal and an assist in that win, Dylan Guenther added a goal and an assist, and Vincent Trocheck scored once. Sergachev, a player to watch for Utah, has two goals and seven assists over his past seven games, with 17 shots on goal, nine hits and six penalty minutes in that span. He also had a three-assist game at New Jersey and a goal and an assist at Columbus earlier this season. Utah has scored at least four goals in five games and has been held to one goal only once. Utah’s two losses came at Boston and the New York Rangers, while its wins include a 6-0 home victory over Chicago and a 4-1 win at Buffalo.

Edmonton has been prolific offensively and is led by Connor McDavid. McDavid has four goals and 13 assists over his past six games, including a goal and three assists in the Oilers’ most recent 4-1 win at Los Angeles. In that game, Devon Levi made 39 saves on 40 shots, and Vasily Podkolzin scored twice. McDavid also had a five-point outing at Vancouver, with one goal and four assists, and a three-point game at Anaheim. Edmonton has scored at least three goals in each of its past six games and has won five of its first six contests. The Oilers have allowed two goals or fewer in four of those games, though they also allowed six in a 6-5 loss to Vancouver.

The Oilers’ attack will test a Utah team that has allowed six goals once this season but has otherwise kept opponents to four or fewer. Utah has scored five or more goals in three of its seven games, including a 6-0 win over Chicago. Sergachev’s two-way play and McDavid’s playmaking make this a key matchup. Edmonton’s home-ice advantage at Rexall Place adds another layer to the matchup. The teams will meet again in Utah in their next scheduled matchup. Utah’s upcoming slate includes games against Pittsburgh, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Edmonton’s next stretch includes Minnesota, Carolina, Toronto, Detroit, Calgary and a trip to the New York area.

Interstat’s game simulator projects Edmonton to win 4-3. Interstat’s ELO system gives Edmonton a 56.2 percent probability to win.
