Phoenix was called for 24 fouls, while Orlando had 14. The Suns’ 17 3-pointers and 14 assists helped offset Orlando’s rebounding advantage.
The decisive stretch came in the third quarter. Booker and Brooks hit back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the period to extend Phoenix’s lead to 78-60. The Suns kept the pressure on and pushed the advantage to 96-73 heading into the fourth. Collin Gillespie’s 3-pointer with 9:20 remaining gave Phoenix a 30-point lead, the largest of the game. Phoenix’s perimeter shooting and Orlando’s turnovers helped the Suns separate after a competitive first half. Orlando trailed 63-51 at halftime. The Suns opened the third with enough offense to turn a 12-point halftime cushion into a comfortable margin.
Orlando tried to answer in the fourth behind Carter’s interior scoring and Tristan da Silva’s outside shooting. Da Silva hit a 25-foot 3-pointer with 3:45 remaining, and Jase Richardson followed with a 23-foot 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 115-100. Booker answered with a driving floating jump shot, and Richardson and Goga Bitadze scored late for Orlando. The Magic closed the game on a small run, but the final margin remained 13. Carter’s 3-pointer with 5:30 left and his dunk with 4:55 remaining highlighted Orlando’s late push. Phoenix managed the final minutes without allowing Orlando to make it a one-possession game.
Phoenix’s win came after a difficult start to the season and ended a four-game slide. The Suns had lost at home to Portland in their previous game and had dropped games to Golden State, Denver and Oklahoma City during the skid. Orlando has now lost three consecutive games after a stretch that included defeats to Washington and Boston. The Magic remained competitive on the boards and generated extra possessions with 15 offensive rebounds, but their 25 turnovers and uneven free-throw shooting limited their comeback chances. Phoenix’s 17 3-pointers and 14 assists helped offset Orlando’s rebounding advantage. The Suns also protected the ball better, committing 11 fewer turnovers than the Magic.
Booker’s 30-point effort led all scorers, while Brooks provided a secondary scoring punch with 24 points on efficient shooting. Bridges filled the stat sheet with 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, and his play on both ends helped Phoenix maintain control. Wendell Carter was Orlando’s most productive player with 27 points and 13 rebounds, and Franz Wagner’s 15 assists kept the Magic’s offense moving. Anthony Black added 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Desmond Bane scored 15. The Suns’ balanced attack and defensive pressure proved too much for Orlando down the stretch.
The first half was tightly contested at times. Orlando opened the scoring with Franz Wagner’s free throw, and the teams traded early 3-pointers from Booker, Bane and Booker again. A dunk by Jalen Green gave Phoenix a 17-16 lead midway through the first quarter, and the Suns closed the period with the lead. Phoenix extended its lead in the second quarter behind Booker and Luke Kennard, taking a 63-51 lead into halftime. Orlando stayed within reach by attacking the offensive glass, but Phoenix’s shooting separated the teams before the break. The Magic used offensive rebounds to create second-chance opportunities, but Phoenix answered with timely 3-point shooting.
Phoenix’s third-quarter surge put the game out of reach. After halftime, the Suns used Booker’s shot-making and Brooks’ scoring to build a 78-60 cushion. Miles Bridges added a 3-pointer and a tip shot later in the period, and Booker’s 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in the second quarter had already given Phoenix momentum. The Suns led 96-73 after three quarters, and Orlando could not recover. Phoenix’s largest lead reached 30 points early in the fourth before the Magic made the final score more respectable. Orlando’s late shooting improved the final margin, but Phoenix’s lead was never seriously threatened over the final six minutes.
