OKLAHOMA CITY SWEEPS PHOENIX WITH 131‑122 GAME 4 WIN
PHOENIX (Interstat) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points and dished eight assists as the Oklahoma City Thunder completed a four-game sweep of the Phoenix Suns with a 131-122 victory Monday night at Mortgage Matchup Center.
Oklahoma City, which entered the game with a 3-0 series lead, wasted no time asserting control. The Thunder scored 37 points in the first quarter and added 38 in the second to build a 75-67 halftime advantage. Phoenix kept pace early behind the shooting of Collin Gillespie and Dillon Brooks, but the Thunder’s balanced attack and efficient three-point shooting proved too much.
The Thunder shot 17 of 34 from beyond the arc and made 26 of 30 free throws. Gilgeous-Alexander led the way, but Oklahoma City also got key contributions from Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Ajay Mitchell. Holmgren finished with multiple dunks and blocks, while Hartenstein grabbed several offensive rebounds and scored inside. Mitchell added a flurry of second-half three-pointers.
Phoenix, which had dropped three straight to Oklahoma City in the series, fought to stay alive. Devin Booker scored 20-plus points and Jalen Green provided a spark off the bench, but the Suns could not overcome the Thunder’s size and defensive pressure. The Suns shot 48 of 90 from the field but only 14 of 39 from three-point range and committed 16 turnovers.
The game’s most critical stretch came in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma City led 106-98 with 5:54 remaining after Cason Wallace hit a three-pointer. Phoenix responded with a 7-0 run, capped by a Booker layup that cut the deficit to 106-105 with 4:18 left. The Thunder, however, answered immediately. Gilgeous-Alexander drove for a layup, then Holmgren threw down a dunk off a feed from the star guard, pushing the lead back to 110-108.
Phoenix refused to fade. Dillon Brooks hit a turnaround jumper, and after a Thunder turnover, Booker scored on a fast-break layup to tie the game at 112 with 4:18 to play. The Thunder called timeout and reorganized. Mitchell sank two free throws to put Oklahoma City up by two, and after a Booker free throw made it a one-point game, the Thunder went to Hartenstein for a dunk that stretched the lead to 116-113.
Booker drained a three-pointer with 51.5 seconds left to pull Phoenix within 118-116. But Gilgeous-Alexander calmly sank two free throws, and the Thunder defense tightened. Green missed a three-point attempt, and the Thunder secured the rebound. Luguentz Dort made one of two free throws, and a late layup by Phoenix’s Jamaree Bouyea accounted for the final margin.
The Thunder’s efficiency was striking. Oklahoma City scored 131 points on 99 possessions, an offensive rating of 132.0. The Suns managed 122 on 100 possessions, a rating of 122.5. The Thunder outrebounded Phoenix 13-10 on the offensive glass and committed four fewer turnovers, 12 to 16.
The victory capped a dominant series for Oklahoma City, which had won the previous three games by margins of 12, 13 and 14 points. The Thunder improved to 68-18 overall, while the Suns finished 46-42.
The game was played before a sellout crowd of 17,071. Oklahoma City’s previous results included a 121-109 win at Phoenix on April 25, a 120-107 home win on April 22 and a 119-84 home win on April 19. The Suns had dropped three straight to the Thunder and had not beaten them since a 135-103 victory on April 12 during the regular season.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Phoenix 121, Oklahoma City 114. The Thunder were installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus-10.5. The total score of 253 went under the over-under line of 211.5. Oklahoma City’s ELO system gave the Thunder a 78.10 percent probability to win.
