Utah vs. Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two Western Conference teams trending in opposite directions will meet Friday night when the Memphis Grizzlies host the Utah Jazz at FedExForum.
The Grizzlies (11-13) have found a rhythm, winning five of their last seven games. They are coming off a dominant 119-96 victory over Portland on Sunday, where their balanced attack saw six players score in double figures. Forward Santi Aldama led the way with 22 points and seven rebounds, continuing his strong all-around play. Over his last 10 games, Aldama is averaging 12.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists, providing crucial versatility for Memphis.
Conversely, the Jazz (8-15) have dropped seven of their last 10 and are reeling from a 131-101 home loss to Oklahoma City on Sunday. Defense has been a persistent issue; Utah has allowed an average of 129.3 points over its last three contests, all losses.
Rookie forward Kyle Filipowski has been a bright spot for Utah, posting a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to the Thunder. He is averaging 14.3 points and 8.5 rebounds over his last four games, establishing himself as a consistent interior presence.
The Grizzlies have been strong at home lately, winning four of their last five at FedExForum. Their offense has clicked, scoring 115 or more points in four of those five victories. Utah, just 3-9 on the road this season, will need to significantly improve its defensive focus to slow Memphis’s momentum.
This matchup is the first of a home-and-home set between the teams, who will meet again in Salt Lake City on Dec. 23.
For Memphis, a win would move them closer to the .500 mark and solidify their recent progress. For the struggling Jazz, it represents a chance to halt a skid and steal a victory against a conference opponent on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
