New York vs. Houston

Preview: Knicks, Rockets Clash in Key Late-Season Matchup

HOUSTON (Interstat) — A pivotal late-season matchup with playoff positioning implications is set for Tuesday when the New York Knicks visit the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center.

The Knicks (49-27), firmly in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, look to rebound from a 114-103 road loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday. The Rockets (44-29), battling in a crowded Western Conference race, enter on a high note after a 119-109 victory in Memphis on Friday.

New York holds a five-game lead in the win column over Houston, but the Rockets won the only prior meeting this season in dramatic fashion. On Feb. 21 in New York, the Knicks escaped with a 108-106 victory.

All-Star guard Jalen Brunson remains the engine for the Knicks. He is averaging 24.2 points and 9.6 assists over his last 10 games, including a 26-point, 13-assist performance in the loss to Charlotte. His playmaking will be central to New York’s offensive flow.

Houston counters with forward Jabari Smith Jr., who is coming off a dominant 21-point, 16-rebound effort against Memphis. Over his last 10 contests, Smith is averaging 17.4 points and 9.1 rebounds, providing critical interior production. Veteran forward Kevin Durant, who had 25 points and 10 assists in the win over the Grizzlies, remains a primary scoring threat.

The Knicks have gone 7-3 over their last 10 games despite the recent loss. The Rockets are 5-5 in that same span but have shown resilience, including an overtime loss in Minnesota and a one-point win over Miami last week.

Both teams face demanding schedules to close the season. Following this contest, New York begins a four-game homestand Friday against Chicago. Houston starts a challenging six-game stretch Wednesday against Milwaukee, which includes a four-game road trip.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT Tuesday at Toyota Center.
