Toronto vs. Phoenix
Raptors, Suns Meet in Key Western Conference Clash
PHOENIX (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for playoff position will meet Sunday when the Toronto Raptors visit the Phoenix Suns at Mortgage Matchup Center.
The Raptors (39-30) and Suns (39-31) enter separated by just a half-game in the standings, adding urgency to their second meeting in 10 days. Toronto won the first matchup 122-115 at home on March 13.
Toronto arrives after a 121-115 road loss to Denver on Friday, despite a 23-point, 11-rebound performance from center Jakob Poeltl. Poeltl has been a consistent force, averaging a double-double over his last 10 games. He will be a focal point against a Phoenix interior defense that has struggled at times.
The Suns are looking to halt a three-game skid, most recently a heartbreaking 101-100 loss at San Antonio on Thursday. Guard Collin Gillespie led Phoenix with 24 points and six assists in that contest, showcasing the scoring burst he has provided recently. His backcourt play will be critical against Toronto’s pressure.
Both teams have displayed offensive firepower but inconsistent defense lately. The Raptors have scored at least 115 points in seven of their last 10 games, while the Suns have done so in six of their same stretch. The over/under is set at 220.5 points, with Toronto installed as a slight 1.5-point road favorite.
The outcome carries weight for the tight Western Conference race. Following this game, Toronto embarks on a challenging four-game road trip, while Phoenix begins a three-game homestand against Denver on Tuesday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time.
