New York vs. San Antonio

Preview: Knicks, Spurs Meet in Marquette New Year’s Eve Showdown

SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — A marquee interconference matchup to close 2025 will feature two of the NBA’s hottest teams when the New York Knicks visit the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night at Frost Bank Center.

Both teams enter with identical 23-9 records, among the best in the league, setting the stage for a potential playoff preview. The game is a quick rematch of a Dec. 16 meeting in New York, which the Knicks won 124-113.

The spotlight will be on a heavyweight battle between star big men. New York’s Karl-Anthony Towns is coming off a dominant 36-point, 16-rebound performance in a 128-125 road win over Atlanta on Saturday. Over his last 10 games, Towns is averaging 22.1 points and 12.2 rebounds, providing a consistent interior force for the Eastern Conference contenders.

He will be matched against San Antonio’s generational talent, Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs’ forward is averaging 19.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks this season. In the recent loss to the Spurs, Wembanyama posted 32 points, seven rebounds and five blocks against Utah, demonstrating his two-way impact. He was held to 18 points in the earlier loss to New York.

The Knicks have won eight of their last 10 games but are 2-2 on their current road trip, which concludes with this game. Jalen Brunson (34 points vs. Atlanta) and OG Anunoby provide crucial scoring and defense alongside Towns.

San Antonio had a six-game winning streak snapped by Utah on Saturday. Prior to that, they had been rolling, with wins by an average of 22.2 points during the streak. Keldon Johnson (27 points, 10 rebounds vs. Utah) and rookie Stephon Castle offer key support for Wembanyama.

The Knicks’ offense, averaging 121.8 points per game, will test a Spurs defense that allows 111.2 points per contest. New York won the first meeting this season behind balanced scoring and by limiting San Antonio’s transition opportunities.

Wednesday’s winner will secure a winning record for the calendar year and carry significant momentum into 2026. Following the game, New York returns home to face Atlanta on Friday. San Antonio begins a three-game road trip at Indiana on Friday.
