Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox

BOSTON (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox open a day-night doubleheader Wednesday at rainy Fenway Park, with the American League East rivals meeting for the second time in three days.

Baltimore (49-54) sends right-hander Shane Baz to the mound for the 1:35 p.m. first pitch. Baz (0-1, 2.25 ERA in two starts this month) took a no-decision Monday in Boston’s 6-5 win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits over six innings with six strikeouts. He worked 4 2/3 innings in a July 12 victory against Kansas City, surrendering one run on seven hits while fanning nine.

Boston (52-48) counters with its bullpen after no starter was announced for Game 1. Closer Aroldis Chapman has been dominant in recent outings, converting all seven save opportunities since June 25 and posting a 0.00 ERA over his last eight appearances. The left-hander earned a win Monday by striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Red Sox have won four of seven meetings this season, including Monday’s 6-5 victory. In that contest, Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson went 3-for-5, and right fielder Tyler O’Neill drove in two runs. Boston first baseman Willson Contreras was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and right-hander Payton Tolle struck out nine over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision.

Baltimore enters on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Houston over the weekend, outscoring the Astros 12-6. The Orioles have won eight of their last 10.

Boston has won 10 of its last 11, including a four-game sweep of Tampa Bay before Monday. The Red Sox have outscored opponents 30-7 during that stretch.

The forecast calls for rain, which could delay the start of the doubleheader. Both teams are scheduled to play 27 games after Wednesday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 Boston victory. The Red Sox are installed as minus-1.5 favorites, with the over/under set at 8.5 runs.
