Chicago Cubs at Cleveland Guardians

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Guardians will meet in a day-night doubleheader opener Sunday at Progressive Field, a quick rematch after Cleveland’s series-opening victory two days prior.

First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 44 degrees.

The Guardians (5-3) will send left-hander Joey Cantillo to the mound, looking to replicate his success from Friday’s 4-1 win over the Cubs. Cantillo earned the victory in that contest, allowing one run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings while striking out six. In his previous start, a relief appearance on March 28 at Seattle, he went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs.

Chicago (3-4) will counter with right-hander Colin Rea, who was the losing pitcher in Friday’s matchup. Rea surrendered one earned run on four hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. He earned a win in his first outing of the season on March 30 against the Los Angeles Angels, giving up two runs in three innings.

The Guardians’ offense was powered Friday by designated hitter Chase DeLauter, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Reliever Cade Smith struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Guardians 6, Cubs 4. Despite the projection, the Cubs have been installed as a -1.5 run favorite in sports betting markets. The over/under for total runs is set at 7.5.

Following the doubleheader, the Cubs continue a road trip with a three-game series at Tampa Bay beginning Monday. The Guardians will host the Kansas City Royals for a three-game set starting Monday.
