Seattle 3, at Toronto 4

Monday, October 20, 2025 · Final · Championship Series Game 7 (TOR wins 4-3)

Seattle Mariners at Toronto Blue Jays

TORONTO (Interstat) — George Springer launched a three-run, seventh-inning home run to erase a two-run deficit and send the Toronto Blue Jays to a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of their American League playoff series Monday night at a raucous Rogers Centre.

The win clinched the series for the Blue Jays, four games to three, and ended the Mariners’ season in heartbreaking fashion before a sold-out crowd of 44,770.

Seattle had controlled the game for six innings, building a 3-1 lead behind solo home runs from Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh. Rodríguez, the Mariners’ star center fielder, opened the game with a double and scored on Josh Naylor’s first-inning single, then added his solo shot in the third. Raleigh extended the lead with his homer in the fifth.

Toronto’s offense, meanwhile, was largely stifled after scoring a run in the first inning on a Daulton Varsho single. Mariners starter George Kirby was effective over four innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three. The Blue Jays struggled to capitalize with runners on base, grounding into two double plays through the first six frames.

The game turned decisively in the bottom of the seventh. With Bryan Woo on the mound for Seattle, Addison Barger worked a leadoff walk. Isiah Kiner-Falefa followed with a single, and Andrés Giménez moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.

That set the stage for Springer, the veteran designated hitter. On a 1-1 pitch, he connected on a towering fly ball that cleared the left-center field wall, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and giving Toronto its first lead of the night at 4-3.

The Blue Jays’ bullpen, a collective force all night, made the lead stand. After starter Shane Bieber went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, five Toronto relievers combined for 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball. Louis Varland, Chris Bassitt, Kevin Gausman and Seranthony Domínguez navigated through the middle and late innings.

Gausman, who pitched a scoreless seventh, was credited with the win, improving his record to 12-12. Eduard Bazardo, who surrendered the walk to Barger that began the fateful rally, took the loss, falling to 6-1.

Jeff Hoffman sealed the victory and the series in the ninth, striking out the side in order to earn his 36th save of the season. The final out came when Rodríguez, representing the tying run, struck out on a foul tip.

The game lasted 2 hours, 50 minutes. The Blue Jays outhit the Mariners 10 to 8.

With the victory, Toronto, which finished the season with a 101-72 record, advances to the American League Championship Series. The Mariners, who won 96 games during the regular season, see their postseason run end one win shy of the next round.
