Tuesday, October 7, 2025 · Final · Championship Series Game 3 (TOR leads 2-1)

Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees

NEW YORK (Interstat) — Aaron Judge’s three-run homer in the fourth inning erased an early deficit and sparked the New York Yankees to a 9-6 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 3 of their playoff series on Tuesday night, staving off elimination.

Despite the win before a sellout crowd of 47,399 at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees still trail the series two games to one. The Blue Jays can advance with a win in Game 4 on Wednesday.

The game was a back-and-forth affair until Judge’s decisive blast. Toronto had seized early control, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. launching a two-run homer in the first inning off Yankees starter Carlos Rodón. The Blue Jays extended their lead to 6-1 in the third, capitalizing on a two-run single from Davis Schneider and a two-run single from Anthony Santander.

New York began chipping away immediately in the bottom of the third. Judge doubled home a run and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Giancarlo Stanton, cutting the deficit to 6-3.

The momentum shifted completely in the fourth. After an error by Blue Jays third baseman Addison Barger and a walk put two runners on, Judge connected on a towering fly ball to left field off reliever Louis Varland, tying the game at 6. The home run was Judge’s first of the postseason.

The Yankees took the lead for good an inning later when Jazz Chisholm Jr. led off the fifth with a solo home run. An RBI single from Austin Wells later in the inning pushed the New York advantage to 8-6. A sacrifice fly by Ben Rice in the sixth provided a critical insurance run, making it 9-6.

From there, the Yankees’ bullpen slammed the door. After Tim Hill earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, Fernando Cruz, Devin Williams and Camilo Doval combined for 3 2/3 hitless frames. Closer David Bednar entered in the eighth and recorded the final five outs, striking out two for his 29th save of the year.

Judge finished 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs, leading a Yankees offense that produced 12 hits. Ernie Clement was a bright spot for Toronto, going a perfect 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI in the loss. Guerrero Jr. went 2 for 4 with his two-run homer.

Varland, who relieved Toronto starter Yusei Kikuchi in the fourth inning, was charged with the loss. He allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits over 1 1/3 innings.

The Blue Jays, who had won the first two games of the series at home by a combined score of 23-8, saw their five-game winning streak snapped. Their record now stands at 96-69. The Yankees improved to 97-71 with the victory.

The game time was 3 hours, 29 minutes.
