Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers
MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers, holding a 1-0 series lead, will look to capitalize on their home-field advantage when they host the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of their National League playoff series on Monday at American Family Field.
The Brewers seized control of the best-of-five series with a decisive 9-3 victory in Saturday’s opener. Freddy Peralta dominated on the mound, striking out nine over 5 2/3 innings, while Jackson Chourio provided a spark offensively, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Monday’s matchup presents a critical test for the Cubs, who finished the regular season 94-72, four games behind the NL Central champion Brewers (98-65). Chicago must find a way to solve Milwaukee’s pitching after being handcuffed in the series opener. A bright spot in the loss was reliever Ben Brown, who tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, and Michael Busch homered.
The season series has been a back-and-forth affair, with the Cubs winning six of the 13 meetings, though the Brewers have taken two of the last three, including the playoff opener.
Despite being installed as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under of 7.5, Milwaukee will face a Cubs team projected by Interstat’s game simulator to pull even with a 6-4 victory.
First pitch is scheduled for Monday night, with the Cubs aiming to salvage a split in Milwaukee before the series shifts to Chicago for Game 3 on Wednesday.
