Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians
CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians, two American League Central rivals with identical 88-75 records, will meet in a pivotal Game 2 of their playoff series Wednesday afternoon at Progressive Field.
The Tigers seized home-field advantage with a 2-1 victory in Tuesday’s series opener, a game dominated by pitching. Detroit’s Tarik Skubal was brilliant, striking out 14 over 7 2/3 innings while allowing just one run. The Guardians’ Gavin Williams was equally sharp, tossing six scoreless innings, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead.
The season series has been tightly contested, with the teams splitting their last 10 meetings. However, the Tigers have won two of the last three head-to-head games, including the last two played in Cleveland.
Weather is not expected to be a factor for the 7:10 p.m. EDT first pitch, with clear skies and a game-time temperature of 78 degrees forecast.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-2 victory for the Guardians, who have been installed as pregame favorites with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 7 runs.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will take a commanding 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3, scheduled for Thursday in Cleveland.
