Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The American League Division Series begins Tuesday at Progressive Field with a Game 1 matchup between the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers, a clash of AL Central rivals who finished the regular season separated by just one game.

The Guardians (88-74) earned home-field advantage for the best-of-five series by winning the division, while the Tigers (87-75) enter as the wild card. First pitch is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 79 degrees.

Cleveland won the season series 10-3, including taking two of three from the Tigers in a late-September set at Progressive Field just last week. The Guardians are riding momentum from a thrilling 9-8, 10-inning walk-off victory over Texas on Sunday, highlighted by Brayan Rocchio’s grand slam.

Detroit, however, snapped a five-game losing streak to Cleveland with a 4-2 win on Thursday. The Tigers dropped their regular-season finale in Boston 4-3 on Sunday, though Javier Báez provided a bright spot with a three-run homer.

Despite the lopsided head-to-head record, Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, forecasting a 7-2 Guardians victory. The pregame betting line, however, lists the Tigers as a slight favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 6.5 runs.

Starting pitchers for the playoff opener were not announced. The series will continue in Cleveland for Game 2 on Wednesday.
