PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — Jacob Misiorowski struck out seven over five scoreless innings, Joey Ortiz drove in two runs and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, at PNC Park.
Misiorowski, who improved to 15-5, allowed five hits and one walk. He kept Pittsburgh off the scoreboard through five innings and received support from a Milwaukee offense that finished with eight hits. The Brewers scored once in the second and then broke the game open with four runs in the sixth. The victory pushed Milwaukee to 94-57. Pittsburgh fell to 75-76.
Milwaukee opened the scoring in the second. Jake Bauers lined a single to right, moved to second on Christian Yelich’s groundout and scored on Luis Lara’s sacrifice fly to center. Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton followed with singles, and Garrett Mitchell was intentionally walked to load the bases. Jackson Chourio flied out to center, ending the inning with Milwaukee ahead 1-0.
Pittsburgh starter Lake Bachar was charged with the loss. He worked two innings, allowed three hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out one. Bachar dropped to 1-4. The Pirates’ bullpen kept the Brewers within reach for much of the night. Brandon Eisert pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings with one strikeout. Antwone Kelly followed with three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out three. Yohan Ramírez recorded two outs with one strikeout, and Wilber Dotel allowed one hit in two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout.
Misiorowski worked around Pittsburgh traffic early. He struck out Konnor Griffin, Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds in order in the first. In the second, Nick Gonzales walked and Rafael Flores Jr. singled, but Spencer Horwitz flied out to left. The Pirates got a single from Griffin in the third, but Reynolds grounded into a force out. In the fourth, Gonzales and Ryan O’Hearn singled, and Flores added a single that deflected off third baseman David Hamilton. O’Hearn was thrown out at third on the play, and Horwitz flied out to left, keeping Pittsburgh scoreless. Misiorowski also struck out Oneil Cruz in the fourth and finished with seven strikeouts.
Milwaukee had a chance in the first when Brice Turang walked, but William Contreras lined out sharply to center. Pittsburgh’s first inning ended with Misiorowski striking out the side. The Brewers went down in order in the third on a Turang strikeout, a Contreras groundout and a Bauers popout. In the fourth, Yelich lined out to third, Lara grounded out to short and Ortiz lined out sharply to left. Misiorowski then retired the side in the fifth on groundouts by Jake Mangum and Griffin and a popout by Lowe.
Milwaukee’s decisive rally came in the sixth. Turang walked and Contreras doubled to right, putting runners on second and third. After Bauers struck out, Yelich walked, and a wild pitch by Gregory Soto allowed Turang to score. Lara then doubled to right, bringing home Contreras and moving Yelich to third. Ortiz followed with a single to left that scored both Yelich and Lara. Ortiz finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Lara went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
After Milwaukee’s rally, Aaron Ashby took over on the mound and struck out Reynolds and Cruz around a Gonzales groundout in the sixth. In the seventh, O’Hearn walked and Flores singled before Jared Triolo lined out to right and Mangum lined out sharply to center. Griffin grounded into a force out to end the inning. Milwaukee put together another scoring chance in the seventh when Mitchell doubled and Turang walked, but Contreras lined out and Bauers struck out. In the eighth, Ortiz doubled with two outs, but Hamilton struck out.
The Brewers’ bullpen protected the lead. Ashby pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two. Trevor Megill added a scoreless inning, yielding two hits. Milwaukee’s staff limited Pittsburgh to one run despite the Pirates finishing with 10 hits. Pittsburgh put runners on base in several innings but could not convert until late.
Pittsburgh broke through in the eighth when Lowe hit his 30th home run of the season, a solo shot to right field. The home run made it 5-1. Reynolds popped out, Cruz struck out, Gonzales singled and O’Hearn lined out to second. The Pirates threatened in the ninth. Flores singled to center, and Ronny Simon singled to left, putting runners on first and second. Mangum grounded into a force out that moved Flores to third and erased Simon at second. Griffin then popped out to second baseman Turang, and Lowe popped out to Turang, ending the game.
For Pittsburgh, Flores had multiple singles and reached base several times. Gonzales singled and walked. O’Hearn singled and walked. Simon added a single. Griffin singled. Lowe’s home run accounted for the Pirates’ only run. The Pirates finished with 10 hits but left runners stranded throughout the night.
Milwaukee’s offense came from several spots. Turang reached base four times on walks and scored. Contreras doubled and scored. Yelich walked and scored. Bauers singled and scored. Hamilton singled. Mitchell doubled, walked and was hit by a pitch. Chourio and the rest of the Milwaukee lineup were held without a hit in key spots at times, but the four-run sixth provided enough separation. The Brewers also got a double from Ortiz in the eighth, though he was left stranded after Hamilton struck out.
Misiorowski’s previous start came Sept. 8 against the Chicago Cubs, when he worked 6 1/3 innings, allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out nine in a 4-3 Milwaukee win. His latest outing improved his season record to 15-5. The Milwaukee rotation has been a strength during its push toward the postseason, and the Brewers improved to 94-57 with the win. Pittsburgh, which fell to 75-76, got solid relief work from Eisert and Kelly but could not overcome the early deficit.
